Catherine Walby: Ms. Walby has taught at the Lawrence Community Music School and Conservatory since 2000. She teaches private and group piano lessons as well as class piano. She has been involved with WMTA and FVMTA in many capacities. She enjoys collaborating with friends, colleagues and students.
Catherine Kautsky: Dr. Kautsky is Chair of Keyboard at Lawrence University. She has been lauded by the New York Times as "a pianist who can play Mozart and Schubert as though their sentiments and habits of speech coincided exactly with hers ... The music spoke directly to the listener, with neither obfuscation nor pretense." Her students have won prizes across the country and gone on to leading graduate programs. Dr. Kautsky has taught at Lawrence University Conservatory of Music since 1987, with a 6-year hiatus as piano faculty and chair of the Keyboard Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Known for her cross disciplinary interests, she was awarded the Arts Institute Creative Arts Award at UW-Madison and has presented frequently at national conferences on such topics as "On the Trail of Chopin and George Sand", "WWI: A Centenary Look at the Musical Wars", and "Celebrating Debussy and the Arts du Spectacle". Her book Debussy's Paris: Piano Portraits of the Belle Epoque was published by Rowman & Littlefield in September 2017. Theresa Martin: Theresa Martin is an internationally renowned contemporary composer of orchestral, band, and chamber music who holds a doctorate in Music Composition from the University of Michigan and whose works have been performed at conferences and recitals worldwide and are available on several recordings. She has composed a large catalogue of works for the clarinet, and in a recent online article was named one of history’s top 100 female clarinetists. She performs frequently on both clarinet and piano, publishes her music, has a private studio in Appleton, and also appears as guest composer at universities around the country. She currently serves as the Wisconsin State Chair of the International Clarinet Association
Michael Clayville: Michael Clayville is an accomplished trombonist and educator specializing in the intersection of music, entrepreneurship, and technology. He currently serves as the Instructor of Music in Entrepreneurial Studies and Social Engagement at Lawrence University, where he directs the Lawrence University New Music Ensemble and teaches courses on marketing, innovation, and career development. Outside academia, Michael is a founding member and the marketing director of Alarm Will Sound, a cutting-edge contemporary chamber ensemble. With over 20 years of experience in performance and music marketing, Michael has worked with prominent artists such as Steve Reich, Tyshawn Sorey, and the Dirty Projectors. He has performed on stages across the globe, including Carnegie Hall and the Barbican, and has been featured on recordings with Nonesuch Records and Decca. Michael is passionate about using technology to empower musicians, enhance learning experiences, and broaden career possibilities in and beyond the music industry.
Barbara Beechey: Dr. Beechey has taught at the University of Wisonsin - EauClaire and the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. In addition she has taught full-time at the Lawrence University Community Music School since 1999. Her pre-college studio is strong and members have been accepted to schools such as Juilliard, Oberlin and the University of Wisconsin - Madison among others. Her students are regularly chosen for the Wisconsin State Honors Orchestra and have been chosen to perform at Carnegie Hall through competitions. In the past, Dr. Beechey also designed and taught the upper string pedagogy course for the Lawrence Conservatory of Music as well as for the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire.
Barbara serves as the principal viola for the Fox Valley Symphony and plays in other area orchestras. She has performed in Europe and soloed with the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra and the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Beechey enjoys playing chamber music with colleagues.
Dr. Beechey recenly completed her certification in Dalcroze Eurythmics through the American Eurythmics Society, with plans to become a Master Teaching Artist which will enable her to certify others in Dalcroze Eurythmics. Currently, she uses Dalcroze Eurythmics in her viola/violin studio, in her own playing and in various workshops she has given at the University of Oregon, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and at Lawrence University.
