KeysFest 2025

KEYSFEST INVITATION & INFORMATION

Dear Fox Valley Piano Teachers,

The following is an information letter for “KeysFest Scales, Arpeggios, Chords, Cadences Event” on November 8, 2025 at Heid Music. The KeysFest Team is excited about the enthusiasm shown by teachers and students for this event! We are asking for your continued patience as we work out the details as this is our first year of “KeysFest”. Please let us know what else is needed for you and your students as you go through the registration and preparation processes.

KeysFest is open to all piano teachers in the Fox Valley area. Teachers do not need to be members of FVMTA.

After reading this invitation, please email the following information to [email protected]
  • Indicate if you are entering students in “KeysFest”. Your name will then be added to the registration document.
  • Also indicate the positions for which you are volunteering; Welcome Table, Room Guide, Room Monitor or Judge.

Musically yours,
The KeysFest Committee
REQUIREMENTS
Please refer to KeysFest Requirements document, attached below. You will find several levels in each of the technique categories: Scales, Arpeggios, Chords, and Cadences. As you look through these categories you may have questions about the requirements.

If you cannot find the answer to your questions, please refer to the attached Clarification Document.

Each student will choose the required number of keys under “Student”. Each judge will choose additional keys from the requirements list, indicated under “Judge”. The student will not know which keys the judge will choose ahead of the audition.

Students will play by memory, without music.
LEVELS
You are free to choose any level in each of the categories for each student participating, according to the needs of the student. Students do not need to play the same level across all categories. You might want to have the student play Level 1 in Scales, but Prep Level in Cadences, for example.

Students can play in all or some or just one of the categories. Students do not need to enter all categories in order to participate.

TEACHER REQUIREMENTS ON DATE OF EVENT
If you are entering students for KeysFest, you are required to volunteer on that day.

Volunteer time is flexible based on your schedule. Volunteer positions include Assessing, or “judging” students (not your own students, of course), working at the Welcome Table or directing students to their audition rooms. All hands will make the event run smoothly and effortlessly.

If you are hesitant to judge, please know that you are qualified if you are entering students. You can request to judge at any of the levels. Observing students of other teachers is an amazing opportunity. The potential to learn different approaches to teaching technic is part of the judging process for this event. In addition, it is always nice to make a tiny connection with each of these brave students!

All teachers entering students are required to volunteer on November 8. Many hands make light work. Your volunteer session will be easy and as brief as possible.

IMPORTANT:
Teachers, please print and fill out a Judge’s Form for each student to bring to KeysFest event on November 8.

Scores for KeysFest are not kept from year to year. Teachers are encouraged, however, to keep track of levels and scores for the next year’s KeysFest Event.

AUDITION DAY
On November 8, students and their parents will come to Heid Music. A welcome table will greet them and volunteers will show them to one of two audition rooms. Each student is required to bring a judge’s form with their levels specified and key choices indicated. As the student is done playing the judge will circle number ratings for each event and total the points. The judge will indicate the color of “ribbon” on the award certificate for each event performed.

You have the best minds for details! Please send a team member any questions you may have regarding “KeysFest”.
